By Ryan Hoover
Hi! 👋🏼
We’re adding a third team member to Weekend Fund. If you love building community and supporting early stage founders, read on...
About the fund
I’ve always been a very curious person, eager to explore new tech and support entrepreneurs. This led me to starting Product Hunt, which has become the launchpad for startups around the world. Shortly after its acquisition by AngelList, I started Weekend Fund to further scratch that itch and support founders in a new way.
At Weekend Fund we invest $100k-$250k checks into early-stage startups around the globe across consumer and B2B. We’re seed investors in Pipe, MainStreet, Deel, Dukaan, Mindbloom, Poparazzi, Ready, Superplastic, Blueland, and many other great companies. While early, the fund is in the 100th percentile when compared against hundreds of other funds using AngelList’s performance calculator.
We’re now on our third fund and eager to bring someone on to double down on community building projects.
Responsibilities
Your mission is to build a community that provides real value to Weekend Fund portfolio founders, LPs, and co-investors. This may include:
While you will have opportunities to learn about investing and support us in sourcing great companies, this is not an investment role.
This is a part-time position (approximately 10-20 hours per week).
What we’re looking for
We’ll take our time to find the right person who is:
We’re a distributed team and hire globally; however, it’s important for candidates to have significant overlap with Eastern Time working hours. We realize this may be too challenging for some parts of the world.
Why you might be interested
This isn’t a traditional job. Those that are eager to learn and considering a future career as a founder or investor would be a good fit. You might be a student or full-time employed professional.
You’ll be given a lot of authority to come up with and execute on new plans. While you will be in close, daily communication with myself, the majority of your work should be self-guided.
The role is paid (of course) and I’ll work with you to establish a package that works for all of us.
Who you’ll be working with
You’ll be working very closely with me (Ryan Hoover) and Vedika Jain.
I started my career as a product manager in the gaming industry. My fascination with technology and behavioral psychology led me to help write Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products.
In 2013 I founded Product Hunt, inspired by a curiosity and a desire to support early stage makers and founders. We raised capital from Y Combinator, Andreessen Horowitz, and other great investors before selling the company to AngelList. Shortly after the acquisition I started Weekend Fund.
Vedika started her professional career at Stripe in 2015, just as they were experiencing explosive growth. Her love for product as a discipline led her to join TrueLayer in London as their first product manager. The company grew from 8 to over 80 people during her tenure.
Her curiosity led her to spend nights and weekends writing “fantasy” investment memos on startups, before joining Weekend Fund as Chief of Staff in 2019. She now writes real memos (among many other things).
How to apply
If you’re interested in joining, tell us more about yourself. We're accepting applications through July 11th (although we recommend you apply asap if interested).
Lastly, if this role isn’t for you but you know someone that might be a good fit, please forward this job description. 😊
Shout out to portfolio company, Makeship, for this adorable illustration of Vedika and me. 🤗
